The particularity of large shaft processing

Large shaft processing is made of forgings. It is more complicated than other shaft processing and manufacturing processes, which results in higher processing technology. Some people are confused about the working requirements of this product. Next, let’s understand the particularity of its processing together to facilitate better use.

1. The technical requirements for large shaft processing are high and the processing volume is large. The manufacturing process of large forgings is very complicated. It requires casting dozens of tons or even hundreds of tons of steel ingots, thousands of tons or even tens of thousands of tons of giant forging equipment, large annealing furnaces and heavy lathes. Therefore, the shafts of some large hydro-turbine generators are forged in blocks of shaft bodies and couplings, and then welded together. In order to avoid unnecessary economic losses, the shaft blanks must be strictly inspected before processing, and they can only be processed after being confirmed to be qualified.

2. The flat end faces and core holes of large shafts are generally not processed on lathes. A very convenient method is to use boring machines for processing. Many large shafts have core through holes. The purpose is to remove the parts that are not easy to forge through the core, eliminate internal stress, and improve the quality of the workpiece. After the material of the product part is taken out, it can also be used as a sample for analyzing the material composition. The shaft of a large steam turbine generator is long and the speed is high, so the requirements for the shaft are very high.

3. The machining allowance of large shafts is large. Rough turning should use strong cutting, and both rough turning and fine turning should use high-speed cutting to shorten the processing time. Large parts are generally complex in structure, so the requirements for large shaft processing are strict. It is recommended that you wear gloves during use, pay more attention to the surrounding environment, and avoid some other problems.
